The holiday came about in the early 1920s in Cleveland, Ohio. It was inspired by a man named Herbert Birch Kingston who simply wanted to make the less fortunate smile.

Today, Sweetest Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in October every year. Similar to Valentine’s Day, Sweetest Day is a day to share a sweet treat, a kind gesture, or a card with a sweet message to someone you appreciate, like a spouse, parent, sibling, or friend.
